Let’s have some fun!

Running rescue is serious business; thank goodness there are times we can relax and enjoy the fellowship of our squad family. The annual banquet at Lansdowne Resort, hosted by the squad auxiliary, was the perfect venue for having some fun. Party goers were greeted by a horse-drawn carriage and enjoyed a fun-filled happy hour before the program. The banquet is an opportunity to recognize both auxiliary and squad members for their leadership, dedication, and the valuable contributions they make for the good of the organization. Although countless members were recognized for their community service, this narrative barely scratches the surface in identifying award recipients.

Festivities began with the installation of the auxiliary officers by the Auxiliary Virginia Association of Volunteer Rescue Squad’s president-Ailease Short, and presentation of Auxiliary Awards by Marie Householder. President Jim Cromer and Chief Tony Mino recognized several members for their length of service; Tuffy Warner topping out at 30 years. Tami Bredow hit a trifecta with the Ed Kitt’s Memorial Award for Dedicated Service, the Allen B. Pollen Squad Person of the Year, and the Squad Member Assisting the Auxiliary Award. Leesburg Mayor Kelly Burke installed the squad officers and presented the Leesburg donation which helps the squad fulfill its vital mission.

Recognizing Patty Russell for her many years of dedication to the squad was the highlight of the evening. Mayor Burke and Town Council Member Marty Martinez presented Patty with a Proclamation from the town. A moving video highlighted her kindness, support and mentorship to countless squad members she has helped over the years. She’ll be improving the lives of those she touches in Myrtle Beach, SC and enjoying her retirement there. Thank you Patty!
